"Wall of Honor" - Champions Forest Baptist Church "Wall of Honor" - Champions Forest Wall displayed at church honors its military members The ministry is open to families of northwest Houston and offers services such as car care, where the wives of soldiers can bring their cars to the church for car services; Post Traumatic Stress Disorder counseling; and Adopt-a-soldier, which offers Bible study classes to connect military men and women. The church also has a Wall of Honor displaying photos of CFBC military men and women serving our country. As of now, there are 42 pictures on the wall, but Miori said the church would expand the wall to accommodate the growing number of photos displayed. “Honoring our military men and women through the Wall of Honor helps us to show, in a small way, how much we truly appreciate the men and women who are willing to pay the ultimate price for our freedom,” Miori said. Miori said there has been a tremendous amount of positive feedback regarding the Wall of Honor. “There was a time when young men would come home from war and there was no one reaching out to them,” said Victor Moran, father of brothers Daniel and David whose pictures are on the Wall of Honor. “Members of the church said we won’t let that happen again. The Military Ministry has a special place in my heart because we have two sons who’ve been out there serving the country.” CFBC members Dianne Hunt and retired lieutenant colonel Willie Hunt have three children, Wesley, D’Hania and Wrendon who are all West Point graduates. “I can’t think of a better way to honor them than to have their pictures displayed at the church,” Willie Hunt said. “The reactions of the soldiers when they come see it – I think it’s another sense of pride knowing the church cares. Sometimes on Sundays, I’ll walk through the church and see people stop just to look at the wall.” Wesley Hunt is currently serving as a Captain in the U.S. Army. “It’s always good when I come home to the church I grew up in and the people I grew up with and see that they genuinely care and that they’re praying for us,” he said. “To me, that’s very comforting.” CFBC will honor its military members during church service Nov. 9 by playing theme songs and patriotic songs and recognizing active duty and veterans. All soldiers are invited to come worship with the church. Article by: Valerie Jones |
